Peter Cole, MacArthur Foundation Fellowship recipient for poetry, author
Rita Freed, John F. Cogan, Jr. and Mary L. Cornille Chair, Art of the Ancient World
Adina Hoffman, essayist, author

Curator Rita Freed discusses Sacred Trash: The Lost and Found World of the Cairo Geniza with authors Peter Cole and Adina Hoffman. They illuminate the exciting discovery, found beneath a Cairo synagogue, of documents from the 10th to the 19th centuries, ranging from religious manuscripts to business inventories and receipts to private letters and poems. Cole and Hoffman tell the story of how scholars assembled these fragments to get priceless, previously unknown details of life in Cairo.
