Shimon Peres has held several diplomatic and military positions in Israel. Currently the president of Israel, he has also served twice as prime minister, been a member of 12 cabinets, and represented five political parties. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 for the peace talks he participated in as Israeli foreign minister. He is also the author of numerous books, including the memoir Battling for Peace and The New Middle East.
