The Eichmann Trial in International Perspective: Impact, Developments, and Challenges, International Conference
Co-organized by the Museum’s Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies and the Topography of Terror Foundation, this interdisciplinary conference will examine the legacy of the Eichmann trial 50 years on. The trial was broadcast widely on radio and television, bringing the testimony of survivors into the public realm in an unprecedented way and marking a turning point in international awareness of the Holocaust. The conference will examine the trial’s lasting impact in the realms of law, media, and history.
Deborah E. Lipstadt—Director of the Rabbi Donald A. Tam Institute for Jewish Studies and Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish and Holocaust Studies at Emory University, Atlanta; Member Emeritus, United States Holocaust Memorial Council; and Member and Chair Emeritus of the Council’s Academic Committee—will present the keynote lecture, titled The Eichmann Trial: A Perspective after 50 Years. Panel presentation subjects include the legal implications of the trial, international reception of the trial in the 1960s, Eichmann and Zionism, the trial as media event, and the trial in contemporary perspective, including its impact and the developments and challenges that have arisen from it.
